NDC launches Ghana Institute of Social Democracy

 

The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has launched its long-awaited political training institute aimed at ensuring that members are grounded in the ideals of the party.

Mr. Johnson Asiedu Nketia aka ‘General Mosquito,’ the party’s general secretary, launched the Ghana Institute of Social Democracy (GISD) to focus mainly on ensuring that party appointees and its faithful understand the principles and ideologies of the NDC.

According to the chief scribe, the school has the party’s director of Research and renowned academic with several years of experience in academia and corporate governance, Dr. William Ahadzie, as its acting rector.

Mr. Peter Boamah Otokunor, NDC Deputy Director of Research, an astute politician and academic, is the acting registrar of the school.

Some of the programmes the GISD is expected to run are the Philosophy, Principles and Practice of Social Democracy, Political Economy of Development, Elections and Electoral Systems, Gender Mainstreaming, Youth Development and Grassroots Political Mobilization.

The school, for a start, will focus more on short courses, workshops and conferences for party members.

All persons interested in learning more about the ideals of social democracy would as well be welcomed.

The launch stated that the school would be registered with the National Council for Tertiary Education (NCTE).

The GISD School would also ensure that the party’s Members of Parliament (MPs) and executives will all be taken through the principles and philosophies of the party.

Mr. Kofi Portuphy, the chairman of the party swore in the Governing Council and various committees, including the Institute’s Programmes Committee, Academic Affairs Committee, Administration Committee, Finance Committee, and Estate Committee.

The school in the meantime will start from the conference room at the party’s national headquarters at Adabraka in Accra.
