…Ordered To Retract Murder Accusation Or ‘See Pepper’ In Court

The Northern Regional chairman of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Daniel Bugri Naabu, has been handed a tough test of character, as the man with huge ego is faced with a demand to grovel and apologize for shooting off his mouth.

Rockson Bukari, the Upper East Regional Minister, has served a demand notice on Mr. Naabu to retract claims that he, Mr. Bukari, had a hand in the 2015 murder of the late Adams Mahama, the Upper East Regional chairman of the NPP.

In a 9th May demand notice served to Mr. Naabu, through his lawyers, A – Partners@Law, Mr. Bukari also demands an unqualified apology from the Northern Regional NPP chairman in a written form, along with an undertaking never to repeat the accusation again.

The NPP Northern Regional chairman, who accused Mr. Bukare of having acted, together with two others, to mastermind the murder of Mr. Adams Mahama, is required by the demand notice to use the same radio station, Class FM, on which he made the allegation to publish the retraction and apology.

After issuing the retraction, apology and the undertaking, Bugri Naabu is expected by Rockson Bukari to publish same on all media, including Class FM, www.classfmonline.com, www.gahanawebonline.com and others which have published the accusation.

And the highly egoistic Bugri Naabu is expected to do this within 48 hours!

“We have firm instructions to, without further notice to you, and upon your failure, neglect or refusal to fully satisfy our client’s demands herein, take out a suit and hold you, the platforms used and those carelessly republishing, liable for your said defamatory comments.”

The statement had been signed by Lawyer Samson Lardy Ayenini and copied to Mr. Rockson Bukari and Class FM.

Denying the allegation that Mr. Bukare was one of three masterminds behind the ambush and acid attack on Adams Mahama in 2015, the statement said the evidence to Rockson Bukari’s innocence is the fact that investigations into the murder have not even remotely connected him to the felony.

Mr. Adams Mahama had been ambushed within the precincts of his own house in Bolga and attacked with acid in 2015. Days later after the attack, he succumbed to his wounds and died.

The police have since charged Gregory Afoko, brother of suspended National Chairman of the NPP, Paul Afoko, with murder and have since been prosecuting him in court.

However, a recent misunderstanding between the NPP’s Northern Regional chairman, Bugri Naabu, and the Gender, Children and Social Protection Minister, Otiko Afisa Djaba, over an appointment of a School Feeding Coordinator for the Northern Region led to Mr. Naabu accusing Otiko of being one of some three masterminds behind the murder of Adams Mahama.

According to Bugri Naabu, Otiko Djaba had acted together with Rockson Bukari, the current Regional Minister for Upper East, and the new District Chief Executive for Builsa North, David Afoko, to mastermind the murder.

He claimed that, as part of the plot to commit the murder, the conspirators had held secret meetings in Tamale and Bolga within the same period that Adams Mahama had been waylaid and attacked with the acid that killed him.

The accusation had been a reprisal to an allegation by Otiko Djaba that Bugri Naabu has been taking bribes in the forms of goats, sheep and cows from people that he promises appointments to.

Rockson Bukari’s demand for an apology from Bugri Naabu comes at a time that The Young Cadres, a group affiliated to the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), have petitioned the IGP to arrest both Mr. Bukari and Otiko Djaba over the murder of Adams Mahama.

The demand also comes at a time that Otiko Djaba has been reported in the media to have snubbed calls on him by President Akufo-Addo to apologize to Bugri Naabu.

She is said to have adamantly maintained that she will also not resign from her post as Gender Minister and that she is prepared to receive a sack from the President.

Meanwhile, indications are that Bugri Naabu will not retract and apologize for the murder accusations against Rockson Bukari.

The Northern Regional Chairman of the NPP is an intensely egoistic man with a trademark to hold on to his guns in damnation of consequences.

In 2016, he accused former President Mahama of attempting to bribe him with GHc300, 000 to paint then Candidate Akufo-Addo as a bigot, but claims he did not accept the bribe.

Mr. Naabu has since not retracted or apologized, even though he has also not provided a shred of evidence.

The NPP heavyweight also enjoys support from the first family, with both President Akufo-Addo and First Lady, Mrs. Rebecca Akufo-Addo, being cozy-cozy with him.

In the very tape which he accused Rockson Bukari of being one of the masterminds behind Adams Mahama’s murder, he boasted of being the only NPP party executive who is so close to the First Lady that Mrs. Rebecca Akufo-Addo does not do anything without first informing him.

According to him, the nature of his closeness to her is such that whenever he is in Accra he eats breakfast in the First Couple’s Nima residence and liberally avail himself of wine that the First Lady keeps in her home.
