…Ex-Prez Kufuor, Kwadwo Mpiani, Otiko, Bukari & Afoko
A ghost is defined in mystical psychology as a twisted emotion left behind by a painfully departed soul, which is condemned to repeat an action over and over again until a wrong done it is corrected.
Increasingly, a strange repetition of a pattern of confessions within the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) over the gruesome murder of Adams Mahama, former Upper East Regional Chairman of the party, is shaping into suggestions that the late Mahama is not resting in peace.
Mr. Mahama, the bread winner of his Bolgatanga-based family, was murdered in the night of a day in early May, 2015, by two assailants who had ambushed him near his own house and ‘baptized’ him with raw acid.
Following the subsequent death of the victim at the Bolgatanga Government hospital, Gregory Afoko, a brother of deposed National Chairman of the NPP, Paul Afoko, was arrested and has since been facing trial.
However, in the wake of the murder, before the police would even discover Afoko as prime suspect and arrest him, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, the NPP’s Member of Parliament for Assin Central, had revealed that Ex-President John Agyekum Kufuor and former Chief of Staff, Kwadwo Mpiani, had been leading masterminds of the murder.
On Accra-based Oman FM, the MP had rhetorically asked the former President and the prefect of the Kufuor regime’s appointees to rejoice after they had achieved their longstanding aim to eliminate the late Adams Mahama.
Soon after the confession by Ken Agyapong, which appeared to have been induced in a sudden trance, the NPP ordered him to go to then Candidate Akufo-Addo’s house to apologize. The Assin Central loose cannon, who is more known for picking up the gauntlet than licking back his own sputum, strangely, did just that.
Fast-forward to May 2017, and under the Presidency of Akufo-Addo, Daniel Bugri Naabu, Northern Regional Chairman of the NPP, has named the Gender Minister and the NPP’s National Women’s Organizer, Otiko Afisa Djaba, as another mastermind of the murder.
According to Naabu, Otiko had acted together with the Upper East Regional Minister, Rockson Bukari, and the Builsa North District Chief Executive, David Afoko, to plot the murder.
Specifically, Naabu says that Otiko and Rockson Bukari had held a first meeting in Tamale, the Northern Regional capital, and a second one in Bolga, the Upper East Regional capital, to firm up the plan to eliminate Adams Mahama.
The late Mr. Mahama had been killed in Bolga!
However, just like Ken Agyapong had been told to apologize at Akufo-Addo’s house after his revelation of Ex-President Kufuor and Kwadwo Mpiani’s involvement in the murder, Otiko Djaba and Bugri Naabu have also been made to apologize for the revelations.
The developments have hung a suspicion on President Akufo-Addo, with the First Gentleman of the land appearing to be covering up the real story behind Adams Mahama’s gruesome murder.
The late Mr. Mahama had been singed like a plucked chicken by the acid that was splashed on him by his assailants. Several months after the death and the only evidence that the police have is that just around that same time, Gregory Afoko, the prime suspect, had been seen with a lot of acid in his car.
Mr. Afoko denies killing Adams Mahama.
Meanwhile, almost a year after the gruesome murder of the late Adams Mahama, President Akufo-Addo has rubbed salt into injury.
Rockson Bukari, the recently appointed Regional Minister for Upper East, is totally loathed by the family of the late Adams Mahama, who say he will not be sympathetic to their cause.
Issaka Mahuzo, a spokesman for the family, recently told Bolga- based A1 Radio that the family believes that Rockson Bukari will not be helpful to the family as Regional Minister.
“We thought that before the president appoints someone as the regional minister, he would have consulted the family but since he didn’t, we were waiting patiently for the President’s nominee to see how he will work but as of now we know that Rockson Bukari does not have the family of Adams Mahama at heart so we need someone who will sympathize with us because we have suffered for the NPP.”
This is the same Rockson Bukari that Bugri Naabu recently accused of being conspiratorial in the mastermind of the gruesome murder of the late Adams Mahama.
Another Akufo-Addo appointment that is seen as an insult to the memory of the late Adams Mahama is that of David Afoko, District Chief Executive for Builsa North.
Immediately upon his nomination by the President, David Afoko, who is brother to Paul Afoko, the party’s sacked National Chairman and Gregory Afoko, the alleged murderer of the late Adams Mahama, faced instant resistance, with the youth of Sandema going on the rampage.
In spite of that, President Akufo-Addo has still maintained him.
Meanwhile, Bugri Naabu also named David Afoko as the third person who conspired with Otiko Djaba and Rockson Bukari to mastermind the murder of the late Adams Mahama.
According to Naabu, they had held secret meetings in Tamale and Bolga.
So far, the addendum of Naabu’s revelation brings to five, the total number of people who allegedly masterminded the gruesome murder of the late Adams Mahama in 2015, Ken Agyapong having earlier named Ex-President Kufuor and Kwadwo Mpinani as the first two masterminds.
Both Ken Agyapong and Naabu are bigwigs of the ruling NPP, Member of Parliament and Regional Chairman respectively.
In the heat of the quarrel with Otiko Djaba that led to the revelation that the NPP’s National Women’s Organizer was conspiratorial in the murder of the late Adams Mahama, Ken Agyapong told Otiko Djaba to shut up.
On Accra-based Adom TV, he said: “Otiko must take her time, and she shouldn’t have even replied Bugri Naabu because she can be fired by the President anytime; he can’t fire Bugri Naabu unless the Northerners go to vote against him.”
Following a disruption of a meeting held by Otiko with Women’s Organizers of the NPP in Tamale on 5th May, the Gender Minister had gone on radio to reveal that Naabu was taking bribes in the form of goats, sheep and cows and promising appointments to people.
It had also emerged that Naabu had suddenly, following the ascension of Akufo-Addo to the Presidency, turned his house into an abattoir where the ill-gotten animals are slaughtered day and night.
