Stay Away from our MP

—-Traders Warn Zanetor’s Distractors

Traders and hawkers of  the Novotel Market at  Odawna near Kwame Nkrumah Circle in Accra, have called on opposing political parties and interested individuals in  the Klottey Korley Constituency to desist from using their plights as traders to tarnish the image of the Member of Parliament (MP) for the area, Hon (Dr) Zanetor Agyemang-Rawlings, for political gains.

According to the traders, they wondered why some  politicians and those they described as “enemies ” of the incumbent MP of the National  Democratic Congress(NDC) could focus on negativism instead of the myriads of achievements so far recorded by the young female Legislator in the past 10 months.

There were media reports recently that, traders at the Odawna market are complaining of neglect by Zanetor after she won the Klottey Korley parliamentary seat in the 2016 election.

A lady who was purported to have identified herself as Madam Manu in the media report claimed the Klottey Korley MP never visit them since she won power as against when she was seeking for their votes.

But in an interview with THE REPUBLIC, leadership and members of the Traders of  the Novotel market at Odawna where Madam Manu made the allegation, expressed their disgust at the false reports against Dr Zanetor.

Mr Samuel Turkson, Administrator of the Novotel Traders Association told the paper exclusively that, Dr Zanetor still frequents the area as a market woman or a trader after the elections.

“Since this young lady won the election, she has been here, she has been to this Odawna market on more than six times and I am totally surprised that someone claimed to be in this market made such  blatant lies,” he said.

He continued,  “I doubt this reports are from our traders here, the person is not from here, it could be those politicians  who want Hon Zanetor  to fall, so they use some of  traders to lie against her, but they will not succeed, why I say so, because, Zanetor has been visiting us all the time, when there is an issue she comes, whenever rain fall, she visit us  to see if the place is flooded.”

“She doesn’t hide herself from us, whenever she comes you will see women chanting and making noise on her presence. She will walk on foot around the market and talk with women. I know every woman in this market, and I know we don’t have a woman by that name,Madam Manu or Menu. I suspect those politicians who were against this young lady, they are the very people continue with this, but we want to warn them to stay away from her, she is our MP now and we don’t have any problem with her.”

“She is with us day and night and we see no reason why someone sitting somewhere wanting to be MP and using our name to destroy her. Though we belong to different political parties, as traders we are one and these lies are not from our members here,” Mr Turkson stated.

He further debunked the allegation, describing  it as “political witch-hunt” being masterminded by Zanetor’s  detractors,

Mr Turkson noted that, there are four developmental projects by the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development through the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) and fully backed by Dr Zanetor, currently ongoing in the area.

The Projects, he mentioned  includes an Anti-natal Clinic, which is  expected to take care of pregnant women in the market and also provide first aid to traders, a Crèche school for kids of the traders, an ultra modern toilet facility of  about 20WC seaters capacity and reconstruction of a drain that flows into the Odaw river through the market from the GCB towers.

The projects which are at various stages of completion, Mr Turkson said are being periodically inspected by Dr Zanetor  and wondered why someone would claimed she never visited the area after elections.

Also speaking on the matter to THE REPUBLIC, Mr Gedo Mensah,  Chief Porter of the Novotel Traders Association said can confidently testify that Zanetor has been in the market on several occasion and warned politicians to desist from using them as tools to attack their opponent.

He further charged the faceless person claiming to be traders in the market to desisting from heating up the polity by crisscrossing with politicians in the market in contravention of the fact that they are not of any political party.

The Chief porter heap praises on the Klottey Korley lawmaker  for living to her words to serve the people for development, stating, ” she always standby us anytime we are in difficulties and we appreciate her effort so far.”

Without mentioning names, Mr Mensah castigated the distractors for trying to create problems for the traders, whom he noted are from different part of the country plying  their trade in the Odawna market.

He said, the ongoing projects which are been facilitated by the MP would go a long way to alleviate the plight of the poor market women who have  being labouring in the scorching sun to help build the nation.

The Chief porter said, the completion of the Clinic, Creche, the drains  and the Toilet facility projects would reduce the burden on accessing primary  healthcare, school for their kids and sanitation condition respectively.

The leadership of the Novotel Traders Association however advised Hon Zanetor to remained resolute and focus and never to give ear to her political opponent whose main aim is to  distract her attention.
