Slain police officer was hit while ‘hiding’ in his car; officer reveals

The Police Inspector who was shot and killed by a gang of suspected robbers at the Kwabenya District Police Station had taken “cover in his broken down vehicle”, an officer has revealed.

A.K Ofosu (not his real name), told Super Morning Show host, Kojo Yankson on Monday, the late Inspector Emmanuel Ashilevi, who was a supervising officer for the patrol teams within his jurisdiction was alone when the incident happened.

The Police officer died after he was shot when a gang stormed the Kwabenya District Police headquarters to free suspected armed robbers who were in custody.

The gang of six (6) armed men attacked the station Sunday dawn and freed seven (7) suspects including a Nigerian aged between 20 and 34 years old.

The remand prisoners have been identified as Dickson Ofori, Chubuzor Chubuzor (Nigerian), Edem Rockson, Emmanuel Kotey, Prince Osei, Kofi Darko and Atta Kwadwo.

Recounting the event, A.K Ofosu was worried about the series of attacks on officers in recent times. At least eight (8) police officers have been attacked and killed within the last month alone, he complained.

“Our leadership; IGP and his members are not happy as to how things are going; the killing of policemen is not just right,” he lamented and called for “a paradigm shift in the way we do things.”

The officer who said he has been in the service for over 12 years also called on political leadership “to pay particular attention to the police service,” because the Service is logistically challenged.

“Our political leaders who control affairs, they must take security matters serious…if there is no peace and order, if your security is not well put [out], forget about development,” he cautioned.
