Render Apology to Lordina Mahama– Hon Ntoso Tells First Lady

Hon Helen Adwoa Ntoso, Member of Parliament for Krachi West constituency in the Volta Region, has asked First Lady, Mrs Rebecca Akufo-Addo, to render unqualified apology to the  immediate former first lady, Mrs Lordina Mahama  for chastising and criminalizing her resolve to reach out to needy communities with her charitable  donations which sought to ameliorate the living conditions of the ordinary Ghanaian.

According to the MP, while then in opposition Mrs Akufo and her team criticized and chastised the former first lady for donating  to the people of Techiman in the Brong Ahafo Region, questioning her sources of funding.

She said just less than a year after such criticism, Rebecca Akufo Addo has found it prudent to donate same and not to any needy and deprived community, but to her own people of New Ningo in Accra.

Mrs Ntoso who is also the immediate former Volta Regional Minister made the these comments  during an interview with THE REPUBLIC in parliament yesterday.

The  First Lady, under the banner of  Rebecca Foundation donated a 66-seater bus to the New Ningo community in the Ningo-Prampram district in the Greater Accra Region,to facilitate the transportation of schoolchildren in the area.

According to reports, the donation was in fulfillment of a promised made to the people when she visited the community last November during which she was enstooled as Naana Djangmakuor I by the chiefs and people of New Ningo.

The bus is intended to facilitate the transportation of schoolchildren in the area, especially senior high students who often travel about three to four miles to Prampram to attend the only senior high school in the district.

But on Ntoso said, though she was not against the idea of giving out to needy as there is more blessing from God when one give out on charity,  she found it very difficult to fathom the moral grounds of the donation since similar donation was heavily criticized.

She contended that, the move by the the current First Lady marked sign of double standard and hypocrisy on grounds that, she failed to reckon that the former First Lady rose from a second lady to first lady and was also elected as President of the Organisation of African First Ladies Against HIV & AIDS (OAFLA).

She stated that, after ruthlessly chastising, criticising and painting former First Lady black for cheap political points, it was the believed she (first lady) would do something extraordinary rather than embarking on similar donation spree.

The Krachi West lawmaker also questioned the First Lady whether she was in the position to disclose her sources of funding to her donation as she and her team questioned Lordina Mahama sources of funds then.

She added that, Ghanaians would also want to know if our current First Lady is in the position to disclose her sources of funding within a eleven months to have purchase a 66 seater bus to her kinsmen.

“The former First Lady did same you criticized. You are doing same and even you are donating to your own people. Lordina Mahama donated to the people of Techiman and you said, where did she got the money?

“So now that she is donating and even giving to her  own people of  New Ningo, is she in position to tell us where she is getting her funds from, does she has the courage to tell us?”  Hon Helen asked rhetorically.

The Krachi West MP questioned why the  First Lady Mrs Akufo Addo did not present the bus to more needy and deprived community where children trench several kilometers to access schools but chose her own New Ningo community.

Without any malice, she said, she want the First Lady to render  an apology to the former First Lady,  Mrs Lordina Mahama for criticizing her and now turned to be doing same without disclosing the sources of her funds.
