…Curses Party With Symbolic Holocaust
A grassroots activist of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the party’s stronghold has cursed the party with a symbolic burning of the party’s paraphernalia.
J.J. aka Akufo-Addo Abonoma, torched a carving of the elephant, the main symbol of the NPP, along with a kerchief and shirts in the colors of the ruling party that he was wearing.
While he was undertaking the symbolic holocaust, Akufo-Addo Abonoma cursed the party over what he said was deliberate neglect while vowing to have nothing to do with the NPP thenceforth.
A video of the event has since gone viral on social media.
In the video, Akufo-Addo Abonoma, a very popular grassroots NPP activist at Asante Mampong is seen lamenting that longstanding support and sacrifices that he has made for the NPP have all gone unappreciated by the party as he continues to wallow in poverty.
According to him, through out the eight years that the NPP had been in opposition he had remained loyal and spent his own money to buy credit for the purposes of calling into radio stations to defend the party.
In 2013, when the NPP lost the 2012 election petition, all NPP supporters in Asante Mampong had become womanish after they had been demoralized by the defeat but he had kept on soldierly in the cause of the party, he said.
However, since the NPP came to power in December 2016, the party hierarchy has ignored him totally. Rather than help him improve his lot, he said, the party leaders have rather shared the spoils of power among themselves, their family, friends and girlfriends.
Akufo-Addo Abonoma did not specifically state but his decry of preferential treatment to the family and friends of party big wigs seems to imply his disgust with the fact that President Akufo-Addo and Vice President Bawumia have mostly shared juicy positions in the NPP government among their family members and close friends.
President Akufo-Addo alone has at least 40 family members in government positions along with a number of ex girlfriends and baby mamas. Vice President Mhamudu Bawumia has extended the share of government posts like confetti to his in-laws.
On his part, Senior Minister, Osafo Maafo has supervised the creation of two brand new positions fore his two sons, while Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta has made his bank, Data Bank, an extension of the Finance Ministry.
As the big men share the goodies of office among themselves and their children, grassroots members of the NPP are totally left out. According to Akufo-Addo Abonoma, even money for credit so that he can continue playing his role as a party serial caller has been denied him; like chicken is bereft of urine.
While burning his NPP carvings and paraphernalia, he denounced and symbolically renounced the party. “From today onwards, I promise to have nothing to do with the party called NPP again,” he declared in Twi.
Amidst cursing and denouncement, Abonoma first set ablaze a carving of the elephant, the NPP’s main symbol, before going on to drop a kerchief in the party’s colors into the fire.
From there, he took off a shirt in the party’s colors that he was wearing and threw it in the fire as well. The symbolic holocaust on the party was then completed with Akufo-Addo Abonoma taking off and throwing into the flame, a singlet of sorts, also decorated in the party’s colors, that he was wearing.
A video footage of the symbolic holocaust has since gone viral on social media.
