Mr. Edwin Nii Lantey Vanderpuye, Member of Parliament for the Odododiodio constituency in the Greater Accra Region, has indicated his readiness to contest anybody as the National Democratic Congress (NDC)’s presidential candidate, ahead of 2020 general elections if former President John Dramani Mahama decides to change his mind not to contest the fierce national primaries next year.
Nii “Okumka” Lantey Vanderpuye made the stunning revelation at the People’s Forum when accounting for his service to the people of the Odododiodio Constituency in the Greater Accra, an event organized under the auspices of the Concerned Youth of Odododiodio.
The MP, full of youthful exuberance, boasted of being the one capable of unseating President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in the 2020 presidential election when elected to lead the largest opposition party.
In a related development, the Odododiodoo legislator pleaded with the government to continue projects begun by the Mahama administration to achieve its purpose of developing the capital city, Accra.
“If the Sraha market is completed and put into use, it will serve the entire people, irrespective of their political affiliations. This should not be politicised at all,” he admonished.
Mr. Vanderpuye was, however, disappointed in the Nana Addo-led NPP government, for ordering the demolition of Old Parliament House for an entirely new project without proper consultation with stakeholders and he threatens to petition the Speaker of Parliament, Prof. Mike Oquaye, when the Fourth Parliament resumes from recess.
He opined that, “As the Member of Parliament of the area I wasn’t aware of the demolition. The same applies to the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA), who is authorized to supervise all demolition exercises in Accra.”
