……..As He Chalks 5 Years Ascension Into Immortality
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has marked the fifth anniversary of the death of the nation’s beloved President John Evans Atta Mills with a series of special events, on the theme: “5 years of ascending into immortality.”
Former President John Dramani Mahama, addressing dignitaries and the ordinary Ghanaians who thronged the ‘Asomdwee’ Park during the remembrance ceremony in Accra yesterday, stated he has missed President Mills.
Speaking about the God-fearing nature and humility of the late President, Mr. Mahama implored Ghanaians to emulate the good professor’s humility, so as not to engage in revengeful acts that could subvert the peaceful co-existence Ghanaians are enjoying.
The anniversary will be celebrated as a week-long programme. The late Prof Atta-Mills, who was noted for his love for peace, passed to eternity on July 24, 2012, a few months away from the crucial 2012 general elections.
The programme to commemorate the death of the ‘’Peacemaker,’’ as he was fondly referred to, started with a wreath-laying ceremony yesterday, July 24, at the Asomdwe Park.
After the wreath-laying ceremony, the members of the immediate past ruling NDC thronged the former Atta-Mills campaign office at Kuku Hill, Osu, in Accra, shortly after the memorial service.
Also, there will also be a memorial lecture at the Atta-Mills Law Faculty at GIMPA, an event expected to see big-wigs of the NDC in attendance, including the former President, Mr. John Mahama and a member of the British House of Lords, Lord Paul Boateng, among many other personalities.
At the wreath-laying event yesterday the entire Atta-Mills family was in attendance in their numbers, a fact that contradicted the detractors who were given multi-media platform to tout that the family are not aware of the anniversary in Accra and Otuam.
While the event was ongoing, a group of people from Otuam who claimed they are family members of the late President John Evans Fiifi Atta-Mills claimed they were not informed about the fifth anniversary of the late Professor.
