…Of fabricating falsehood about Kwesi Botchwey C’ttee
Mr. Godwin Edudzi Tamakloe, the deputy youth organizer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has accused the Akufo Addo’s government of using National Security operatives to divert the attention of Ghanaians from the current unrest in his party by fabricating false stories about an alleged leaked Kwesi Botchwey committee report.
According to Mr. Tamakloe, both the NPP and government communicators are behind such concocted stories in circulation in some pro-government media outlets, with the sole objective of distracting public attention from recent wild accusations and counter-accusations between Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection, Otiko Djaba, and the Northern Regional Chairman of the NPP, Mr. Bugri Naabu, both prominent members of the ruling party.
“The NPP and the government communicators in view of this Otiko Djaba and Bugri Naabu goats and sheep for appointments, murder of late chairman Adams, etc., they wanted something to use in order to divert the attention of the public from a scandal that we don’t know where it’s leading to. So because of this unfortunate incident the ruling party has to concoct something that would be put into the public domain,” he said.
Speaking during an interview on Montie Fm, the deputy national youth organiser of the NPP noted how the counter accusations between Otiko Djaba and Bugri Naabu have attracted the attention of Governance and Transparency experts within civil society groups in the country to the extent of questioning the fairness and integrity of the incumbent Akufo -Addo government.
Bugri Naabu has been accused of receiving goats, sheep and cows as bribes from people interested in the District and Municipal Chief Executive positions in his region.
Madam Otiko Djaba is also accused by Bugri Naabu of having a hand in the murder of the party’s late Upper East Regional chairman, Adams Mahama.
Pro-NPP newspaper ‘Daily Guide’ reported that it had sighted a leaked Kwesi Botchwey Committee final report on the abysmal defeat of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the 2016 general elections which, according to the paper, is riddled with accusations and counter-accusations as to who was responsible for the party’s humiliating defeat at the hands of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Mr. Tamakloe said instead for the government to deal with this damning development within its circles, it rather wants to turn the people of Ghana attention from government to the NDC, using its pro-NPP media outfits.
But the legal practitioner described the story concerning the Kwesi Botchwey Committee’s final report and its recommendations as false and should be treated with disgust.
“It’s clear that the story is completely out of the terms of reference of the committee. It is not the job of the committee, for instance, to determine who leads the party and who does not. So immediately you read such a story line you know that it’s a concoction and a fabrication,” Mr. Tamakloe noted.
He reiterated Dr. William Ahadzi’s comments on the committee’s work, noting that the committee is still carrying out its mandate of taking views from people and at the appropriate time will submit its final report to the executives of the party.
“So they don’t even have a draft for one to state that it has leaked, this is just a simple work of government through National Security to divert attention from the implosion on going in the government,” he stressed.
Mr. Tamakloe, however, described the unfortunate happenings within the ruling NPP, which is just about four months in power, as unprecedented and a worrying matter and as a result making every frantic effort to divert attention from it.
