Hon. Mohammad Bawah Braimah, Member of Parliament (MP) for the Ejura-Sekyeredumase Constituency in the Ashanti Region, has launched an annual free revision classes for senior high school (SHS) students in the area to boost their scholarly performance.
According to the MP, literacy is critical to economic development, as well as individual and community well-being, and that the free classes are key to increasing students’ performance.
More than 200 students drawn from various senior high schools in the constituency are benefiting from and attending the classes, being taught by about nine teachers, in all the examinable subjects.
The free classes which would be run till schools reopen will cover all the four core subjects and other electives, including Mathematics, English, Social Studies, Integrated-science, Economics, Geography, and History.
Speaking to The Republic in parliament after launching the program last Saturday in Ejura, Hon. Bawah Braimah said, the aim is to enhance quality education in the constituency.
He said, “It is a fact that, many of the students could not finish their syllable before they went on vacation and the free extra classes from my personal resources would go a long way to enable the students to recover some subject areas that they are unable to cover in school before vacation.”
The MP added that, the initiative also aims at ensuring that students stay away from social vices and focus on their books to improve their education levels and performance in the examination.
Hon. Braimah told the paper that education remains the bedrock of community development and that no community could have meaningful development without its people being well educated.
High quality education, he noted, remained key because, people ought to work for self-sufficiency and dependency and education helps people to gain jobs for financial independence, stating, “Education is the only path that can develop our communities.”
To the MP, he is motivated by the fact that, education is the only means for a promising, secure future and a stable life, adding, “the sky is his limit to help the youth who aspire to reach greater heights through education.”
He states that, it has been his outmost desire to help promote and make education a pride for the youth in his constituency without any political colour, noting, he has contributed immensely to the educational system in his constituency.
Mr. Braimah, who is also the immediate former Municipal Chief Executive for the Ejura-Skyeredumase Municipality, revealed that during the recent Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), he supported some of the students with examination writing materials.
He therefore reaffirmed his commitment to help maintain and develop the free vacation classes to make it a huge motivational pad to help the youth embrace the zeal to learn and achieve more.
