Majority MP cause Panic in Parliament with Gas cylinder

 

 

Majority Member of Parliament for Tarkwa -Nsuem, Hon George Mireku Duker  yesterday caused panic on the floor of parliament with an explosive Gas Cylinder when the debate on the 2018 budget was intense.

The first timer MP who was making his contribution on the energy sub sector of the budget raised 15 kg cylinder to demonstrate what the New Patriotic Party, NPP intend to distribute to the less privilege in society.

According to the Tarkwa Nsuem lawmaker, Mireku Duker the cylinder was to  buttress his point  that the gas re-circulation model was in the right direction and would  avert recurring gas explosions.

But the Minority kicked against it presence in the chamber, arguing that,  the safety of legislators was under threat with the gas cylinder in their midst

Deputy Minority leader, James Klutse Avedzi, who drew the attention of the First Deputy Speaker , Hon Joseph Osei Owusu contended that the presence of the cylinder on the floor of parliament was a threat to them and should be taking out immediately

However, the Majority Leader, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu disagreed, stating thatbthe MP brought in the cyclinder to stress a point and that it was not a threat.

Nonetheless, the First Deputy Speaker, ruled  against the Majority and stated that it was  indeed an offensive weapon and ordered the Marshall to remove the cylinder from the chamber.

The Speaker noted that the presence of the gas cylinder  puts the lives of legislators at risk.
