…Says NDC Won’t Waste Time On His Lies
Mr. Kofi Adams, the national organiser of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), says the party, as the main opposition in the country, will not engage in any unnecessary challenge thrown at them by the Vice President, Dr. Mahummed Bawumia.
Dr. Bawumia has challenged the NDC to bring proof to back their claim that since the Akufo-Addo-led government came to power early this year, it has been engaging in reckless borrowing, an act which was at one time condemned by the ruling party, while in opposition last year.
But, according to Mr. Adams, it is a fact that the Akufo-Addo-led government, since its inception, has embarked on a needless borrowing spree, against their own words to Ghanaians during the 2016 elections that the NPP will not borrow when it comes to power.
He said, for that matter, the NDC will continue to consistently expose to Ghanaians the lies of the Akufo-Addo-Bawumia-led government, without any hesitation.
“Why should we waste our time on such a challenge, while the Vice President, Dr. Bawumia, and his government are still doing the same in other areas of the economy? I know Ghanaians are listening to all that we are saying and at the end of the day they will do a value judgment,” Mr. Adams said.
His comments come after a Flagstaff House statement issued from the Office of the Vice President by the Director of Communications, Frank Agyei-Twum, challenging the NDC communication machine to provide evidence to back up their claim.
“The Vice President’s speeches, lectures and statements on the economy over the years are a matter of public record, for all to ascertain the veracity of the false claims and therefore,” the statement had said, urging the NDC to “argue on facts and not fabrications.”
The Flagstaff House statement underscored: “We are therefore challenging the deputy minority leader (and the other NDC communicators) to immediately provide the evidence to back up their claim. They cannot provide any such evidence because the Vice-President has never made such a statement. To deliberately fabricate statements in an attempt to attack your political opponent is an exercise in desperation and intellectual dishonesty.”
But speaking to this paper, Mr. Adams said, considering the current challenges facing the NPP government to the extent that they cannot even meet their revenue mobilization target for this year and thus leaving them no chance to borrow is enough facts for Ghanaians to make sound judgment.
“Since the NPP took over the reins of government in this country they have not been able to meet their revenue targets. Today you will hear the trading of bond here, tomorrow there is a loan here, the other day it was leveraging and that’s how they are operating now. So what Dr. Bawumia told Ghanaians that the money is here in Ghana and for that matter they won’t borrow has proved not to be true hence forcing them to borrow from the international market to enable them to meet their targets,” he disclosed.
