The Privileges Committee of Parliament on Tuesday June 26, reached a conclusion that the Member of Parliament (MP) for Assin Central, Mr Kennedy Agyapong, has a case to answer regarding his alleged contemptuous remarks against Parliament and the Majority Leader, Mr Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu.
The committee Chaired by First Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Mr Joe Osei Owusu, reached the decision after taking evidence from the star witness, the Minority Chief Whip, Alhaji Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka, at a pre-conference meeting.
The meeting was held in camera, blacklisting the Parliamentary Press Corp (PPC) from sitting in the meeting.
The press were ready to take coverage of the meeting with Muntaka, but the Chairman of the committee asked that the Media be excuse from the meeting since it was a pre-hearing meeting.
Consequently, it was gathered the committee after taking statement from the Asawase lawmaker, Mubarak Muntaka, fixed July 3, 2018, for Mr Agyapong to cross examine the star witness(Muntaka) on the evidence provided.
Mr Agyapong was dragged before the Privileges Committee of Parliament over his purported contemptuous utterances against Parliament and the Majority Leader, Mr Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu.
The matter was raised on the floor of parliament and referred to the 31 member privilege committee to investigate Agyepong and make recommendation.
