Following a promise by the Council of Elders of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) to embark on a healing and reconciliation tour, it has been confirmed that the tour is in the offing.
A statement issued by the Council of Elders and signed by Vice Chairman, Alhaji Mahama Idrissu, announced that the Council has put in place a team to go around the country to inspire reconciliation.
It also emphasized that the Council of Elders itself is leading the reconciliation process by example, as the reconciliation has already started among members of the Council itself.
The statement, which was issued after a meeting of the council yesterday, said the move is in line with recommendations of the Kwesi Botchwey Committee.
“As part of the process of implementing the salient and critical recommendations of the Elections Review Committee (Under the Chairmanship of Prof. Kwesi Botchwey) in resolving the internal conflicts and differences, the Council has put in place teams to visit the various regions and team up with regional representatives to undertake the process of healing and reconciliation,” the statement said.
The statement said that as part of the way forward, every aggrieved member of the party is required to use the party structures to vent their frustrations.
The statement did not mention disciplinary action against any member who flouts the Council’s order to let sanity prevail, however, the voice of the Council alone is sobering enough.
On the basis of the new efforts the Council called on members of the party to respect the structures of the party.
The meeting, which yielded the resolution, was held at the NDC’s Headquarters in Accra yesterday.
The meeting was under the Chairmanship of Founder, former President Flt Lt. Jerry John Rawlings.
