Speaker of Parliament, Prof. Mike Aaron Oquaye, has reiterated his opposition to the lwgalisation of gayism , swearing on his honor that he would rather resign as speaker than lead Parliament to pass bills legalizing homosexuality.
In an interview on Accra based Metro TV’s flagship political talk show, ‘Good Evening Ghana,’ Prof. Ocquaye called gay love a “delusion”.
“If anybody should bring such a thing to parliament and I have to preside over that, I’d rather resign than subscribe to this delusion,” Prof Oquaye told Paul Adom-Otchere.
“If [a discussion] should happen, just by way of conjecturing, I would leave. I would not preside over that. No; I would not preside over that and I would not be part of that. It would be a matter of serious principle, including my Christian ideals.”
The Speaker’s position is in sharp contrast to that of President Nana Akufo-Addo who has said the legalization of gayism in Ghana is bound to happen.
In an interview on Al Jazeera earlier in the year, President Akufo-Addo had indicated that gayism is still not legal in Ghana yet because sufficient pressure has not been put on him by the forces of homosexuality and lesbianism.
The revelation has since been seen as an invitation to gay activists to intensify activism in Ghana. This is in spite of the fact that the life style is illegal in Ghana.
Since then, the IGP has promised rigid protection of the human rights of gays in Ghana. This is inspire of the fact the queer lifestyle is frowned upon by Ghanaian law.
But Prof. ocquaye has long sounded discordant to the pro-gay leaning of the President. Earlier in the year, the Speaker said the House would not be coerced into passing any legislation that endorsed gay rights.
Addressing a group of religious leaders who paid a courtesy call on him, Prof Oquaye insisted that the current crop of parliamentary leadership would not endorse an act that majority of Ghanaians abhor.
An ordained reverend minister, Oquaye said in the interview with Paul Adom Otchere that same-sex relationships were created by Satan, “to destroy God’s best formation, that is the man and woman. … Very, very evil. Dangerous.
“The church cannot allow it. God loves the sinner but he hates sin. We love them, but we will treat them and get them out of that miserable situation,” he added
