–-John Afful appeals to NDC delegates
Mr John Afful, a Chairmanship aspirant for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) of Weija-Gbawe constituency in the Greater Accra Region, has asked delegates to give him chance as Chairman of the constituency to unseat the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament (MP),Hon Tina Mensah.
He said the NDC brought much development to the constituency but continue to suffered electoral defeats over the years.
According to him, NDC needs a person committed to expose the inefficiency of the NPP and take over the constituency for development of the area to continue.
“All that the NDC need in the constituency is a development oriented and more experience person to champion and articulate development vision of the party to the people of Weija-Gbawe,” he said.
He debunked claims that the Weija-Gbawe constituency is the traditional stronghold of the New Patriotic Party.
Mr Afful disclosed this to The Republic in an interview at Weija-Gbawe over the weekend.
The NPP, he stated has over the years paid lip service to the development of the constituency and shirked its responsibility to cater for the welfare of the constituents and the communities which they profess to ‘own’.
Mr Afful is contesting to lead the party as constituency Chairman for the first time with the incumbent constituency Vice Chairman.
He said residents of Weija-Gbawe, have being complaining soon after the 2016 election for lack of needed development and that it was time the people reward NDC with the seat.
He said the party have the chance to turn things round for the seat, but that mighty be made possible through a dynamic Constituency Chairman.
Campaigning under the banner, “Not under my Days Should the Grassroots Suffer,” Mr Afful said he was in pursuit to bringing a better living and to reward the NDC for what it has brought onto the constituents and therefore was more than qualified to lead the NDC in Weija-Gbawe as Chairman.
Mr Afful who described himself as loyal member of the National Democratic Congress since 1992, urged supporters of the party to defy all odds and vote for him to redeem the party and the constituents whose rights and privileges he said have been deprived for the past years.
He explained that, as a grassroots man and communicator, he has the courage and the dynamics that would not only bring hope, but plans that would help to annex the parliamentary seat to fix the needs of the people of Weija-Gbawe.
The NDC fanatics further told the paper that, there has been clarion calls for change in the leadership of the party in the constituency and his message centered on focusing on the grassroots members of the party and snatching the seat from the ruling party.
In that regards, he again appealed to the party supporters to vote for him at the constituency elections, stating that, “the aim is to snatch the seat from the incumbent ruling NPP, Madam Tina Mensah, the non performing MP.”
The highly-spirited and confident man said, the outlined opportunities he intends to bring to the door-step of the ordinary member of the party in the constituency are critical and urged the NDC delegate not to be deceive by people who would entice them with money and dump them after winning power.
With a humble but very convincing message, he said he was entering into Chairmanship race with a clear programme of action for enhancement of NDC fortunes in the constituency.
