With over 6.2 million active Mobile Money users and over 75,000 active agents nationwide, Ghana’s leading network provider says it is collaborating with the relevant stakeholders, including the Police, Media, E-Crime and others to mitigate the fraud menace which is seriously threatening digital payment platforms.

Speaking at the 6th Anniversary of the MTN Mobile Money Month celebration in Accra on the theme “ Expanding Digital Payments for Economic Transformation, the Manager for Mobile Financial Services, Eli Hini urged customers to take advantage of the short videos and safety tips on Mobile Money and fraud avoidance to educate themselves.

According to him, the success of Mobile Money service in Ghana is evident and it’s anticipated that through the month of August which has being chosen as a Mobile Money Bank, more of Ghana’s unbanked population will sign on to the digital financial service platform to enjoy a robust digital financial platform.

“As we know, we live in exciting times. The world is changing at a faster pace than we all could ever imagine. Some of us are trying to keep up with the pace of technological innovation. Technology impacts all of us daily, the way we interact, shop, learn and bank. And as we all migrate onto a virtual world, we demand a robust digital financial platform,” he said.

Mr. Hini noted that, as part of efforts to support Mobile Money payments in the country, MTN Ghana during the first quarter of 2017 introduced what it called the “Tap2Pay” solution with the aim of making payments easier as it eliminates the need to navigate through the Mobile Money menu to make a payment.

“One of our biggest areas of focus is enabling payments, and today several payments are now available through the robust Mobile Money platform. With the Bulk payments solution, our clients now easily make payments to many customers in one go, useful for salary payments and other disbursements to multiple recipients,” he added.
