Mr. Daniel Okyem Aboagye, the Member of Parliament for Bantama, a suburb of Kumasi, has called on the government leaders and the general public to endow the Electoral Commission (EC) with funds and logistics.
He said the EC should be given enough funds and logistics to enhance their activities, and in turn improve the democratic governance in the country.
The MP made the statement during the discussions on the budgetary allocation to the EC, in Parliament
He added that democracy is a prerequisite to the development of the nation, and it attracts foreign investors.
Mr. Abaogye explained that there is a general perception of escalation of conflict in the elections.
He, therefore, advised the public to desist from having such perceptions in their mind.
The Electoral Commission is an institution established to see to it that government of a state is established in fairness to all parties in a country, thus it is an institution of state, set up to regulate and supervise the conduct of democratic elections in a state.
The Electoral Commission was first established in Ghana under the Second Republic constitution which was composed of the Electoral Commissioner (EC) and his two deputies.
