Amid revelations that Deputy Director of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police is a star-struck fan of President Nana Akufo-Addo, who is working to cover up corruption in his government, it has emerged that the regime has tipped her for promotion.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Maame Yaa Tiwaa Addo Danquah has been penciled for a kick up the ranks, soon to be adjusted to the position of Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP).
It is said that her promotion is in the offing as the new Police Council prepares to officially announce it.
The Council, which was sworn in by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on the 6th of July, this year, is said to have had ACP Mrs. Addo-Danquah’s uplift in the pecking order as one of its preoccupations.
A promotion to the rank of DCOP will see her climb up to the grade where she will only be three ranks below the position of Ghana’s Chief Constable, the Inspector General of Police (IGP).
As DCOP, she will assume the authoritative badge made up of a star surrounded by laurel leaves, surmounted by another Star; emblematic of her level in the chain-of-command in the service where only the IGP, Deputy IGP (D/IGP) and the Commissioner of Police (COP) can instruct her.
Sources say the speed with which she is about to be elevated by the new Police Council, after she was hurriedly transferred from the Police Training School in Winneba to Headquarters in Accra by the NPP government is meteoric, and that, if the pace is sustained, she could be a COP before the next election year – 2020.
A woman said to be related to President Akufo-Addo by marriage, Attorney General, Gloria Akuffo, who is a member of the Police Council, is by default, a sister-in-law.
The Council is chaired by Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia.
At the moment, ACP Mrs. Addo-Danquah is in the news over a secretly recorded conversation with musician, Kwame A-Plus, in which she is clearly heard self-confessing to a desire to keep a stinking corruption offence by the Akufo-Addo government under wraps.
Self-confessing as an admirer of the President who longs to meet him in person for a tête-à-tête on how to ensure that corruption does not become a ruination of Akufo-Addo, the senior police officer is heard advising A-Plus to sort out his feelings with regime actors and party colleagues so that a corruption allegation against two Deputy Chiefs of Staff does not become the undoing of the whole government.
The allegation made by A-Plus, which is to the effect that the two Deputy Chiefs of Staff, Samuel Abu Jinapor and Francis Asenso-Boakye, had committed theft in a contract concerning the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, was supposed to have been investigated by the police.
“As for the corruption aspect of it, from what you said and what we’ve gone to confirm, you wouldn’t be too far from right to say that this is what happened, but we need to manage… the people are your people. We need to find the best way to ensure that Korle Bu works the way we all want it to work,” ACP Mrs. Addo Danquah was heard in a secretly recorded conversation with A-Plus.
The conversation, which appears to have been recorded by A-Plus and later leaked to the public, had come after the Director of the CID, DCOP Bright Oduro, had released a statement claiming that upon investigation of the case, the police had found that the allegation of thievery against the two deputy Chiefs of Staff were baseless.
In the heat of revealing that Bright Oduro’s official statement on the investigations, which she had taken part in, was a lie, ACP Mrs. Tiwaa Addo-Danquah had also shown that she lived a fandom in the police service as a stars-truck devotee of President Akufo-Addo who is dying to meet him.
“…I wish I could have an audience with the President himself. Because it looks like most of the things doesn’t get to him…yes I feel sad for him… I feel he has good intentions but he’s not going to achieve it.”
Since the revelation, Mrs. Addo-Danquah has claimed that her voice was doctored but nobody is taking her serious. In an attempt to do damage control, she has vandalized the standards of conduct in the Police Service, bypassing the Public Affairs Department and staging her own containment.
She has also revealed that in dismissing the allegation, the police had taken on the authority of the Attorney General and discontinued investigations without advice.
ACP Mrs. Addo-Danquah has also claimed that A-Plus blackmailed her, even though, strangely, the senior police officer never arrested the alleged blackmailer.
As the upcoming promotion emerges as the latest tid-bit in the ongoing saga of ACP Maame Yaa Tiwaa Addo-Danquah’s politically taintedness as a cop, a short track record has also emerged on social media.
The viral mini-info is reminding the public that she was part of the police officers under whose watch cocaine metamorphosed into Kokonte during the erstwhile Kufuor era. She was also part of the team, which investigated the MV Benjamin cocaine case.
She was later transferred to head the Police Training School in Winneba where she is alleged to have been accused of several financial malfeasances.
Even though she is said to have come under investigations at Winneba, she was moved to the Headquarters in Accra immediately the NPP came to power and set up to be promoted by the Police Council.
