The incoming Ashalaja Zongo Chief, Alhaji Yussif Taihiru, has appealed to the Minister of Zongo and Inner City Development, Alhaji Abubakar Sidiq Boniface, to urgently help them construct a police station in the community to enable them to curb high level of armed robbery in the area.
In addition, Alhaji Yussif mentioned that they are also confronted with lack of potable drinking water in Ashalaja, a suburb in the Ga South Municipality.
In an interview with The Republic at his Ashalaja residence, the yet-to- be outdoored Zongo chief expressed worry over how residents travel long distances to Kasoa and Amasaman to report cases of robbery and other social vices to the police.
This, he said, puts the lives of the residents of Ashalaja in danger; also, the incidence of land-guards is another problem they are battling with, in the area and all this is as a result of a lack of police post in the area.
The incoming Zongo Chief of Ashalaja, in the Greater Accra Region made the appeal also to the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr. Asante- Apeatu to rescue them from the torments of the armed robbers and land-guards among others.
Alhaji Yussiff Taihiru lamented why such an area with a high rate of armed robbery cases in Ghana lacks a police station for the residents to report criminal cases for redress.
He also mentioned instances and difficulties they had to go through trying to get the authorities to provide them with a police post.
He was therefore stressing on the Minister for Zongo and Inner City Development to as a matter of urgency to liaise with the Inspector General of Police to get them the presence of police officers in the area.
In a related development, he also revealed that a considerable number of residents have developed serious eye problems such as cataract due to lack of potable drinking water in Ashalaja.
The only source of drinking water for the people of Ashalaja, he said, is River Densu that passes through the communities and wells.
