APPIAH STADIUM NARRATES TORTURE ORDEAL

– From The Horse’s Own Mouth

…  Says ‘They Put A Gun To My Head’

Revelations that the so-called apology by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) activist, Appiah Stadium, over  rife public knowledge that President Akufo-Addo smokes wee, had been exacted under duress, has been confirmed by Appiah himself.

According to the victim, known by birth name Frank Kwaku Appiah, he had issued the apology with a gun leveled at him.

The same apology had also been dictated to him, while brutalization by the police had been escalated to former President Mahama, who had been insulted as an uncircumcised hilly-billy by a lady Police officer at the national police headquarters.

In an interview with Accra-based ‘Radio Gold,’ Appiah Stadium tells of how he had been handcuffed throughout a journey from Kumasi to Accra, and had had his legs repeatedly grazed by the barrel of AK47 rifles as part of the his ordeal.

And the whole ordeal had come about simply because he had harped on a well known public allegation that President Akufo-Addo smokes wee.

According to Appiah, the nightmarish brush with Akufo-Addo’s reign of terror had started after he had had an exchange with the ruling NPP’s Hopeson Adoryeh on Accra-based Okay FM.

Mr. Adoryeh, a man renowned for throwing blows and slapping people, had promised on Okay FM to use the apparatus of state to arrest Appiah Stadium over the re-harp on the public allegation of the President’s addiction to ‘wee.’

Appiah reveals that following the exchanges with Adoryeh on Okay FM, Rev. Owusu Bempah, self-styled pastor, who is a known activist of the NPP, called him and proposed to get the issue between him and Adoryeh solved.

He said Rev. Bempah had consequently asked him to travel from Kumasi to Accra to meet with him so that he can kick start the resolution of the matter, promising that Hopeson Adoryeh is his (Owusu Bempah’s) boy and that he would easily be made to stand down.

Appiah revealed that just around the same time, National Security operatives, in some three Landcruisers, had stormed his home in Kumasi in search of him.

He said when he later got home from town, where he apparently had called in to Okay FM to have the exchanges with Adoryeh, he quickly picked some two clothes and hopped on to a car to travel to Accra to meet Rev. Owusu Bempah.

Upon meeting with Owusu Bempah, the NPP man of God asked him if he was willing to apologize for harping on the allegation against President Akufo-Addo, to which he replied in the affirmative.

But then, Hopeson Adoryeh, leading about eight National Security operatives, heavily armed with guns, turned up and arrested him, following from which he was led to the house of Prof. Maame Ama Busia, Member of the Council of State.

It was here that his torture started.

Appiah Stadium said he was made to kneel down and put his face to the ground before Ama Busia, while soldiers pointed guns at him. Other collaborators in the torture, one of whom he said had claimed that he was a Captain, also recorded with cameras.

“The apology that I gave that has been recorded and put out there, along with a video capturing me speaking with former President Mahama, together with the picture in which I kneel before Maame Ama Busia, in all those instances I had a gun pointed at me.

“In one of the pictures in which am seen kneeling down while somebody is holding a camera and capturing it, that guy he says he was a captain. As for him, he used the gun to graze my legs all the time,” Appiah Stadium said in fluent Twi in the interview with ‘Radio Gold.’

He reveals that the recordings that have been put on social media were made with cameras, including the camera of Hopeson Adoryeh’s phone, while a gun was pointed at his head.

“Hopeson Adoryeh held an android phone on me while a gun was pointed at me. So in that video in which I am seen pleading with President Mahama I had my heart in my mouth under serious duress. I had been surrounded by soldiers in Ama Busia’s house and I do not believe even if we had war in Liberia we would carry along such soldiers.”

Appiah Stadium said, given the duress under which he was, he would have even insulted former President Mahama if he had been told to do so.

In one of the videos from the ordeal, Appiah Stadium is seen crying his heart out to President Mahama on phone to help him, saying the NDC had abandoned him in his hour of need.

In another audio recording, the NDC activist is heard saying he regrets ever insulting President Akufo-Addo and that he wipes his mouth on the ground for calling the President a wee smoker.

In the background of this tape, voices are clearly heard telling him what to say.

Appiah Stadium told ‘Radio Gold’ that all those confessions were not made out of his own volition and that he had been coached to say those things, even as he stared down the barrel of a gun.

A theistic person, he vows that if he is lying about the choreographed nature of the confession, then let God take his life.

In proving the dubiousness of the recordings, he recanted his earlier renunciation of the NDC urging the party to unite so that Akufo-Addo can be voted out in 2020.

Appiah continued that after Hopeson Adoryeh and the rest of his tormentors had secured the recordings, Mr. Adoryeh had then called pro-NPP media people, including Afia Poku of Adom FM and other journalists from Citi FM, and Peace FM and forwarded the recordings to them.

The same Hopeson Adoryeh had also forwarded a copy of the audio to Ernest Owusu Bempah, the PRO for Ghana Gas, who had in turn published on a social media platform

Later, according to Appiah Stadium, an arrangement had been made for him to go on some of the pro-NPP radio and TV stations to recant his harp on the wee smoking allegation against Akufo-Addo.

He said after they had secured the recordings, his tormentors led him to the VIP bus station in Accra to pick a car to Kumasi, very late in the night, but immediately upon arriving in Kumasi around 8am he was met by a group of National Security operatives, led by one Jordan One.

This Jordan One guy put him in heavy handcuffs and led him to the Police Headquarters in Kumasi where all his phones were seized. Meanwhile the same Jordan One guy had gone on to boast on Kumasi-based Fox FM that he had arrested Appiah Stadium.

In the clutches of the Kumasi Police, he said he was eventually allowed to place a call to President Mahama who urged him not to say anything but later put him in touch with some NDC big wigs, including former Deputy Chief of Staff, Dr. Valerie Sawyerr and Lawyer Edudzi Tamakloe.

Eventually, the Kumasi Police decided to transfer him to Accra.

“I was in handcuffs throughout the journey from Kumasi to Accra. They did not allow me to urinate, rather they kept saying instructions from Accra (prevented them from allowing me my rights). At a point I was hungry, they did not allow me to eat…they did not even respond to my request to let me have a can of coke and biscuits.”

He said when they arrived in Accra, Lawyer Edudzi Tamakloe fought hard for his release. The police had intentionally marooned him among some 16 ACPs, according to him, who kept interrogating him like he was a murderer.

All through it, a lady police officer had sworn that she would do everything to ensure that he was jailed. Interestingly this same police officer, whom he could not name, had along the line insulted him to his face, saying that he, Appiah Stadium, was foolish enough to support an uncircumcised hilly-billy, like former President Mahama and yet has the effrontery to insult Akufo-Addo.

Appiah Stadium said that insult had been recorded and so when the woman kept throwing her weight about, he also pointed it out to her that she had insulted President Mahama and that she should play the tape for all to hear that she is also saucy.

After resisting the demand, Lawyer Edudzi Tamakloe had insisted on the tape being played until the tape was played, sending all the police officers around into shock.
