AKUFO-ADDO GOVT ACCUSED OF DIVERTING 216 CANADIAN PICK-UPS

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has come under accusation of diverting some pick-up vehicles that the Canadian government donated to Ghanaian farmers as part of a support policy for Ghana’s Agric sector.

A group calling itself ‘Friends of Agriculture’ has thus petitioned the Canadian government in an attempt to bring the attention of the donor nation to the alleged rascality of the NPP government.

According to the group, while the NPP government has only recently instructed that some 50 districts and Municipalities which were recipients of the vehicles received by the Mahama government in 2016 should return them to the government, 116 of the vehicles cannot be traced at all.

“Before the procurement of the pickups, all districts and Municipalities presented their needs of the pickups. However, when the 216 pickups arrived the ministry of Agriculture gave out only 50, five each, to the regions while 116 of the vehicles are being diverted.

“The ministry of Agriculture has also directed that municipalities should return the pickups allocated to them. Directors of Agriculture told the Minister that Canada May withdraw their support but the arrogant Minister said before the Canadian support agriculture has been going on,” the petition said.

According to the petitioners, the development has stirred up tension within Ghana’s Agricultural sector with directors of Agric gearing up to stage protest over the issue.

“The government of Akufo-Addo is not serious about agriculture,” the group said.
