Akufo-Addo Caught Lying Over Wa Water Project

What is seen as the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP)’s ongoing choreography of lies has inspired an objection in the Upper West Region, where President Akufo-Addo’s arrogation of credit for the Wa Water Project to the erstwhile Kufuor regime is causing shock.

The same Akufo-Addo, who has relaunched the Ekumfi Pineapple factory, after President Mahama started it in 2013, relaunched Free SHS after President Mahama started it in 2014 and claimed credit for the National Identification project after President Mahama set it up, is claiming that the Wa Water project was started by the erstwhile Kufuor regime!

But the National Democratic Congress (NDC)’s Communication team in the Upper West is not having it. Led by Issah Kantagyere, they are calling a spade a spade – President Nana Akufo-Addo is a lying old man.

“Not only were the people of Jambusi, a rural community in the Wa West District of the Upper West Region, shocked, they were also disappointed in the President’s ability to lie between his teeth and still look unworried,” a statement by the Communication team said.

Facts

According to a fact check by Issah Katangyere, the project had started five clear years after the Kufuor government had been voted out of office in 2008.

“The $51.54 million 3.3 million gallons per Day Wa water project was occasioned by the NDC administration. The sod cutting was done by HE John Dramani Mahama in February 2013 for works to start, five clear years after the NPP lost power to the Late President Mills in 2008. During the execution of the project, then Korean ambassador to Ghana, Lyeo Woom-ki, visited the region and inspected ongoing works in the company of the Exim Bank of Korea representative, Yu Jeonseon. The project was jointly funded by the Korean Exim bank and the NDC Government to be constructed over a period of 36 months. Kolon Pyunghwa Limited of South Korea was the company that undertook the construction.

“Prior to the Wa Water project, the NDC Government had secured a $5.8 million World Bank facility to improve the supply of water to Wa town and its environs which saw an increase of the ground water supply to about 700,000 gallons of water a day from the initial inadequate 300,000 gallons of water a day. All this were deliberate attempts made by the Ex while NDC government to replace the old water supply system which has been in existence since 1952.”

After setting the record straight, the Communication team wondered if the President intentionally tells these lies or the problem is that he is not on top of issues in the country.

This is the same Akufo-Addo who went to relaunch a private pineapple factory at Ekumfi in the Central region, in August this year, to signify the take off of his flagship one district- one factory, policy even though President had launched the project in March 2013.

In September, President Akufo-Addo launched a haphazard version of the Free SHS even though President Mahama had started piloting it in 2014. selfsame Akufo-Addo recently took to his Facebook Timeline to claim the launch of the National Identification project as a fulfillment of a campaign promise even though President Mahama had actually set up the project.

The claim that the Wa Water project had been started by the erstwhile Kufuor regime is just a continuation of the lies that the President has been telling.

But this time, the people of Upper East are not having it.

“Fellow Ghanaians, our President has lied and this time in a more profound way. The speech writer of the president, Mr. Eugene Arhin, in mind, should not be used as the scapegoat this time. The fact is that we have a president who simply doesn’t know the facts of his country’s development or he simply has an increasing and unflinching appetite for peddling falsehood, baseless, unwarranted, misguided and distorted truths to unduly favor his political linage.

“Our President is either sleeping or is been misled on his job and needs to be woken up,” a statement issued by Issah Kantagyere said.
