An American citizen and Oblieman-Opah Development Queen Mother with the stool name Nana Adarku Mensah I, known in private life as Graciela Marie Blackstone, has threatened to sue the Accra Regional Police Command for frustrating her chief in a court case.
According to the Queen Mother, her palace was attacked whilst Nii Ayitey Oyanka Anumle I and his elders were in a meeting planning Homowo celebration whilst she was away in the USA.
She cited the Police in one of the attempts to frustrate Nii Ayitey Anumle I, served him with summoning after Accra Regional Command had a meeting with him and his elders to hold on with the sprinkling of paper to celebrate Homowo of which he complied.
In the summon Nii was to appear in court on Monday on same Homowo celebration in his area; this further raised suspension that the police is scheming to compromise on justice with the shooting case in court in favour of the faceless individuals behind the shooting into the palace.
In the press release, the Queen Mother also cited the Police for refusing to release Nii Ayitey after Court granted him bail till the IGP called for his immediate release.
Naa Adarku I, who was alarmed with all these by the regional Police command, threatened to sue the regional commander as well as the Amasaman Divisional and District Police commanders for their alleged interference as the case is in court.
The press statement sighted by THE REPUBLIC indicated that the regional police command conspired with the Divisional and District commander to frustrate the Chiefs.
Naa Adarku I, described the police actions and inactions on the matter as clear “wickedness”.
“There are enough bullets evidence of sporadic shooting by the alleged sponsored individuals who attacked the Oblieman-Opah Palace; But Ghana Police is courageous enough to do what they are doing as if they are also behind the shooting at the palace”, the statement partly read.
Nonetheless, Naa Adarku said, we thank Almighty God my chief and the elders at the Homowo meeting in the palace that faithful day was able to escape otherwise it would have been nasty.”
She expressed surprise on the police whose core mandate is to maintain law and order could engage in such unprofessional conducts.
She, therefore, appealed to President Akufo-Addo and the Acting Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr James Oppong-Boanuh to set up an independent body to look into the matter and the culprits made to face full rigours of the law.
