A former Minister for Youth and Sports, Major Rtd Dr. Mustapha Ahmed has filed his nomination forms to contest the National Democratic Congress (NDC ) parliamentary primaries slated for Saturday, August 24, 2019.
Major Rtd Mustapha stormed the party office with huge number of teeming party followers amidst drumming and dancing.
Addressing the party followers, the Constituency Chairman, Tairu Ahmed confirmed that only two candidates are contesting for the Parliamentary primaries.
He said it’s a friendly inter-party contest, therefore, the leaders and their supporters should be mindful and campaign with good messages devoid of personalisation and attacks on internal opponents.
He reiterated the aspirants desist from name-calling and rancour that would jeopardise the chances of the party in the constituency come to the 2020 general elections.
Dr Mustapha Ahmed, the former legislature for the area, was very optimistic of winning the Parliamentary primaries to go ahead to retain the seat for the NDC.
Addressing his supporters, Dr Mustapha appealed to them to ensure they carry out a clean campaign ‘a spot’ of insults and attacks.
He stressed on the need for a strong unity within the party during and after the primaries to face the failed ruling New Patriotic Party NPP led by ‘old man’ Nana Akufo-Addo in 2020, for having failed the State.
He told pressmen after filling his nomination that his comeback was in response to numerous calls on him by party delegates and party supporters in the Ayawaso North Constituency.
“After careful weighing and consulting, I need not turn the call of the people down since the voice of the people is the voice of God”, he indicated.
Major rtd. Mustapha Ahmed lost the 2015 primaries to the incumbent, Yusif Jaja, who was given massive endorsement from party delegates at that time.
The former Army officer is in a straight contest with the incumbent Member of Parliament (MP), Yussif Jaja.
