A former National Youth Organiser of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Sidii Abubakar Musah, has expressed confidence to reclaim the parliamentary seat the party lose to Hon Boniface Abubakar Sedique of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the 2020 general elections.
Sidari Musah who is in the parliamentary race with three other persons stated this after he had filed his nomination forms at the constituency office in Madina on Thursday, July 18, 2019.
He told THE REPUBLIC, it was evident that the NDC would win the seat which was snatched by the NPP due to internal problems the party suffered before and during the 2016 general elections, but that would be made possible with a competent and tactical candidate like him.
He added that the party has an over-whelming support base in Madina Constituency which could be cresting as its strong area, nothing that, ” I am taking steps to resolve all division that helped NPP to take the seat.”
“The seat is for us and I am determined to take our seatback. The NPP themselves knew about that and I am coming with a united voice and we will use all legitimate means politically to take our seat back, ” Sidii added.
In the 2016 general elections, Nana Akufo-Addo of the NPP obtained 37,528 representing 50.16 per cent against, John Mahama of the NDC with 6,658 representing 48.99 per cent.
On the parliamentary results, Alhaji Boniface Saddique Abubakar obtained 40,283 representing 54.90 per cent to beat Alhaji Amadu Bukari Sorogho of the NDC who managed with 31,650 representing 43.13 per cent.
But sounding very optimistic of the party victory in 2020, Sidii said the filing of his nomination forms “marks the beginning of the rescue mission.”
“With the filling of this nomination, this marks the beginning of the rescue mission,” he said, adding his campaign would be based on issues and also focus on unity and reconciliation, grassroots mobilisation for the party would redeem its electoral fortunes in 2020.
He added; “I see no reason why we will not win back the Madina seat at the polls. If the election is all about the people, we will win better now than before. We have over the years providing quality services to the people of Ghana which this supper incompetent NPP could not.
The former national youth organizer stated that with the huge population, Madina deserved better development and should he win the primaries and subsequent national elections, he would focus on education, health, youth empowerment, roads and as well green Madina environment.
In his view, there was no way the party would lose the 2020 elections with him as a candidate, noting that though the NPP government has plans to intimidate electorates, “No intimidation will deter the people of Ghana from voting for the NDC to come back to power.”
He noted that the people of Ghana would in 2020 have the opportunity to vote on the performance of President Nana Akufo Addo, as against the performance of John Dramani Mahama of the NDC administration
He said, no matter the challenges, the Madina delegates would vote for him as a candidate for they believed he could do the job and bring victory to the party at the general elections.
Sidii assured his campaign would be conducted with the unity of Madina in mind, stressing that having served as a National Youth Organiser of the party, he knew the importance of unity within the party and therefore would not do anything to cause disunity within the party.
He also implored other candidates who had declared their intentions to contest the seat to refrain from the campaign of insults and attacks since it was an internal election.
“I’m pledging my campaign will be devoid of insults. We will conduct ourselves well,” he said, urging the electoral body that would see to the organisation of the elections to maintain neutrality and impartiality, ” he said.
