National Women’s Organizer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr Hanna Louisa Bissiw, has urged NDC women to redouble their campaign efforts to ensure victory for President John Mahama in the 2020 general elections.
The NDC women leader made the appeal at an orientation meeting with the Madina Constituency women, including branch women organizers and members at Madina in Accra, last Sunday.
“Let me remind you of the need to take advantage of this orientation to intensify your campaigns in order that we realise our resolve to improve upon our membership base at the grassroots.”
“Let us work harder and mobilise the people in our various branches and communities to join and vote for the NDC at all levels of the elections. We the women are the engine of the party at the grassroots and we must work hard, ” the former Deputy Minister for Food and Agriculture stressed.
The theme for the orientation meeting was ,” Empowering Women through Grassroots Participatory for Victory 2020.”
Dr Hanna Bissiw, said the women members remained the pillar of the party and that they must continue to discuss and chart the way towards ensuring the success of NDC in 2020 elections.
She also reminded the women that NDC is the only party that had women at heart and has demonstrated strong faith and commitment to the empowerment, elevation, emancipation and total transformation of Ghanaian women over the years.
She added that the NDC administration has always demonstrated commitment to the Development of the country and that the past NDC regime had done so much than any other administration under the 4th Republic of Ghana in terms of women development and empowerment.
This she said, “we need to work together with a single focus. We need to intensify our campaign and reach out to every Ghanaian to showcase our party and our candidates,’’ she said.
The National Women’s Organizer later told THE REPUBLIC, the orientation meeting was to motivate and to encourage the constituency women and their branch leaders to keep the momentum in the constituency.
According to Dr Hanna Bissiw, the current state of the hardship economy couple with insecurity, need the immediate return of the NDC but they must work hard to cement that opportunity to rescue the Ghanaian electorate from the cruel hands of the NPP administration.
“The economic hardship under this New Patriotic Party (NPP), insecurity is a big issue. Many people cannot afford three meals a day. Prices of goods and services are high and the worse of it all is insecurity.
“As we speaks, our children are been kidnapped, our daughters are been kidnapped under this government and we cannot as a nation find them. So Ghanaians are yearning for the return of NDC but we need to work hard towards that victory ,” she stated.
The NDC women leader said, the NPP promised to make the cedi one to a dollar, reduce the cost of food items and to reduce fuel prices but none of those promises were delivered.”
Dr Hanna Bissiw, who is also a former Member of Parliament (MP) for Tano South said NDC’s victory at the polls would further guarantee the survival of Ghana to give women and the youths a better future.
She, however, thanked the women for their demonstrated efforts, commitment and dedication so far and urged them to jointly work to victory for NDC to re-create a country where unemployment would be tackled, jobs created, infrastructure provided and the economy rebuilt.
Present at the meeting were Greater Accra Regional Women’s Organizer, Madam Felicia Bortey, Constituency women organizer Hajia Ayishetu Abdulai Arie, her Deputy, Hajia Alima, among other leading women members.
Also present was the constituency Chairman, Alhaji Abdul Rahman alias Alhaji Surviver, Constituency Organizer, Mr Annani, Secretary Razak Hussien and Alhaji Faila Hussein, an aspiring parliamentary candidate.
They all took turns to encourage the women to be united and work towards victory 2020.
