Hon Rudolf Nsorwinne Amenga-Etego, Member of Parliament for Chiana/Paga constituency in the Upper East Region, has donated 200 bags of fertiliser to local farmers in the constituency.
In addition to that, the MP presented four motor bikes, one for the Mirigu police station and the other three to some farmers in aid of their work, while effort being made to provide more motorbikes to the Sirigu, Paga and other police stations.
The Apsonic Tycicyle , popularly known as “motorKing ” was presented for the best farmer award in the constituency .
The donation is part of his contributing to farmers to ensure good yield and bumpers harvest in the region.
At a ceremony to present the fertilisers to the farmers at the Kassena/Nankana West District Assembly, a Special Aid to the MP, Mr Gilbert Atanga stated that the presentation was the MP promised to support the farmers to increase their yields and improve on their farming business.
Apart from the fertilisers, he said, Hon Amenga-Etego had at the last season provided 60 water pumping machines, 200 knapsacks to farmers across the constituency and also assisted some of the farmers with seed capital to support their farming activities.
He further promised to provide more of the water pumping machines for farmers to engage in irrigation as he lobby intensively with the Ministry of Food and Agriculture through Ghana Irrigation Development Authority (GIDA) to support them with fertiliser.
Mr Atanga said, the MP vision is to reduce extreme poverty within the constituency, hence the zeal to support farming the main occupation of the residence.
He however used the opportunity on behalf of the MP and appealed to the District Assembly Agriculture department to continue to work with the farmers in training and sensitisation on best agronomic farming practices to ensure that the right application and right farming practices are adopted to deliver high yields.
He said since women were critical in building and sustaining homes, it was the MP hope that the gesture would also extend to support various women farmers in the constituency.
The Officer In-charge of Stores at the Kassina/ Nankana West District Assembly , Mr Hamidu Issah, who received the items on behalf of the Assembly and expressed appreciation to the MP for the support, noting that it would go a long way to boost their productivity and increase yields.
He further commended Chiana/Paga lawmaker for his timely contribution to the agricultural sector and encouraged other stakeholders to emulate same so the District could boost yearly harvest.
