Mason jailed 15months for pulling Down School block

A 27-year-old man who admitted causing thousands of Ghana cedi worth of damage to M/A basic School within the Suhum Municipality of the Eastern Region, has been jailed for 15 months.

Frederick Zikpe, destroyed portion of a 3-unit classroom block specifically the windows and the doorway of the school, on October 22, 2018.

He said to have caused the damage midnight at the time residents were deeply asleep, with the believed that his actions would not be trace.

Unfortunately for Frederick, police investigation has led to his arrest and subsequent prosecution which the Suhum District Court handed him 15 months jailed term to serve as deterrents to others.

Suhum District Police Commander, Superintendent of Police, Mr Joseph Owusu told Journalists the command received distress calls from the Kontihene of Suhum that a Teacher in the M/A Basic school has called to inform him ( Kontihene) someone has pulled down portion of the newly constructed 3-unit class room block.

According to the police Commander, a team of police were despatched to the scene and it was confirmed of the damage of school building.

Mr Owusu said police investigation led to the arrest of Frederick and upon interrogation he( Frederick) confessed been the brain behind the damage on the school structure.

The police commander said, Frederick was processed to the law Court for prosecution and at the Court he admitted culpably and recklessly demolishing the school block to pave way for construction of what he ( Frederick) believed to be most pressing and needy project in the community.

He further pleaded guilty to the charge of Causing Unlawful Damage contrary to Section 172 of Act 29 of 1960.

The District Court, presided over by Ms Rhoda Donkor, accordingly sentenced him to 15 months to serve as deterrent to other suspecting hooligans in the country.

Frederick action, was further alleged to be politically motivated master minded by faceless persons in the Municipality who would stop at nothing to bring down the current Municipal Chief Executive, Mrs Margaret DARKO Darkwa.

The damage of the school structure was deliberate attempt to frustrate the MCE in her effort to lift the development of the municipality.

When the MCE, Mrs Darkwa was contacted on the action of Frederick, she commended the police for acting swiftly to arrest and prosecuted the culprit.

She added that, she had been appointed by President Nana Akufo Addo to spear head the government development agenda in the Municipality and she remained focus in that direction.
