An aspiring Deputy National Women’s Organizer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Hajia Alijata Sulemana, has asked women delegates of the party to give her the opportunity to use her political experiences to empower the grassroots women across the country.
The party has scheduled October 20, this year to elect new national women executives at Gomoa-Feteh in the Central Region.
Currently, about five candidates including the two incumbents Dr Catherine Deynu and Hajia Osman are contesting for the Deputy National Women’s Organizer position.
According to the former Member of Parliament MP) fo Sisala East, her leadership would ensure the grassroots of the party is financial empowered beyond 2020.
“My mission to contest for the Deputy National Women’s Orgainzer is to help bring that transformation that NDC needs at this time. Grassroots are the engine and managers of the party because I am one of them. I have been a grassroots person all along and understands them better than anyone else. Almost all the work of the party is done by the grassroots”.
“For the NDC to be vibrant, women organizers need to be given logistic and support right from branch to national levels to discharge their duties very well, strong women’s wing will ensure victory for the party come 2020 general elections “Hajia Alijata told delegates at Northern Region.
She added that “the time has come for the party to institute schemes and massive revitalisation of welfare for the aged and the deprived that will ensure their sustainability.”
The former MP said, there are several programs that she would be rolling out if giving the nod, stating, “all my promises are about the grassroots, improving the financial status of the grassroots women, human resource development, human development program and several others that I have outlined to support my boss so to empower our grassroots women.”
The Deputy National Women’s Organizer aspirant said her engagement and deliberations with foot soldiers, branch and constituency executives during her tenure as District Chief Executive and later MP, has equipped her with the political ideas and skills on how to execute and handle the grassroots of the party.
Hajia Alijata revealed, when elected she would liaise with her boss to build the capacity of women organizers of the party to be centered on job creation and poverty reduction across the country.
She pledged her commitment to establish Women Empowerment Schemes at the various levels to reduce poverty and vulnerability among the women, stressing that, “there is an urgent need for the women organizers from branch level to be giving the necessary skills training and resources to discharge their duties well.”
She also criticized incumbent New Patriotic Party( NPP) government for engaging in what she describes as deceitful governance.
“That deceptive kind of politics by the NPP must be reversed by the NDC in 2020, we have to let Ghanaians know that politics is not about deceiving people. We have to remove that veil of deception, lies and hypocrisy that has engulf the Akufo Addo led government since it took office”.
